Bake, Sauté or Grill Apple Slices

a Great Dessert

Apple Slices DessertThis no fuss dessert is perfect anytime of year. Summer grillin’ to winter baking. I love this fruit and it’s evident by the number of apple recipes I’ve posted. Well, I grew up with “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Hard to break the habit … and not a bad one at that! Add cinnamon or try a little Cognac for a dress up. Just Perfect!

Recipe

One apple per person-I like Granny Smith for the firmness and tartness
2 Tablespoons of packed brown sugar per apple
Sprinkling of ground cinnamon-optional
Butter, if sautéing (about a tablespoon per apple)
1 Tablespoon of Cognac per apple if using

Baking:

Perheat oven to 350 degrees
Peel and core each apple.
Then slice about 1/4 inch thick.
Place single layer on a nonstick cookie sheet or baking dish.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until crisp tender. Remove from oven and set oven to broil.
Sprinkle apple slices with brown sugar and place under broiler for seconds until bubbling but not over-browning to a bitter taste. Remove and cool slightly.
Sprinkle with Cognac and serve. Add ice cream if you like.

Saute:

Melt butter in sauté skillet over medium heat.
Add peeled, cored and sliced apples.
Sauté until al dente.
Sprinkle with brown sugar before removing from skillet.
Add cinnamon and or Cognac.

Grill:

Add prepared apples, cored-peeled-sliced, to heated grill.
Gill about 15 minutes, turning over half way through.
Add brown sugar after removing from grill, flash broil if necessary for desired caramelizing.
Add cinnamon or Cognac or both.

There you have it!
