Chocolate Malted Milk Scones
The perfect scone for the chocolate lover.
Just the right amount of chocolate taste with a hint of malted. A great way to start your morning with that cup of coffee. This recipe is only slightly revised and one of many put out by King Arthur Baking. I’ve enjoyed many of their products and tried several of their recipes. I do recommend trying their catalog for interesting baking ideas.
Recipe
Bake at 375 degrees F for 18-20 minutes approximately.
Whisk together in a large bowl the following ingredients:
2 1/2 Cups all purpose flour
1/4 Cup unsweetened cocoa
1/2 Cup malted milk powder-recommend King Arthur brand
1/4 Cup sugar
3/4 Teaspoon salt-a pinch less if using salted butter
1 Tablespoon baking powder
Add 1 cube cut-up (1/4 pound) cold butter-cut this into dry ingredients like you would for pie crust until crumbly.
Mix together (whisk by hand works) these wet ingredients:
3/4 Cup milk
1 Large egg
2 Teaspoons best vanilla
Add the liquid ingredients to the dry and mix by hand until ingredients are just incorporated.
Fold in one cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips.
On a lightly floured surface (& hands) form two 6 inch free form wheels of dough. Cover with wrap and refrigerate for an hour.
Preheat the oven.
Place parchment paper on baking sheet. Place dough on parchment.
Cut each wheel into 6 wedges. Separate the cut edges slightly to provide more even baking.
Bake until done and cool before drizzling the following.
