Old Fashioned Soda Fountain Drinks
Kinda
These are icy cold, richly refreshing and perfect for the hot days ahead. The secret ingredient? Frozen fruit or ice keep these cold and thick until the last gulp or spoonful. They all have ice cream, the slow churned version with half the fat. We could talk about substitutions here but for this post I’m using ice cream. Into calorie counting? The Root Beer Ice Freeze has 50 calories, the Blueberry Cream Soda Freeze 75, and Strawberry/Berry Milkshake and French Silk Milkshake Freeze 125. All 8 ounce drinks.
Recipe
You’ll need a blender with ice blending/crushing capability. All liquids need to be very cold.
Root beer Ice Freeze
This is very icy.
2/3 Cup diet root beer-I use a very good diet drink here that can compete with the real deal.
1 Scoop vanilla ice cream-slow churned
4-5 Ice cubes
Instructions: For all these drinks blend until ice or frozen fruit is well blended. All the drinks here are very thick. Spoon into your favorite glass.
Blueberry Cream Soda Freeze
2/3 Cup diet lemon-lime soda-I may try this with an unsweetened soda next time. Blueberries are so sweet.
1 Scoop vanilla ice cream-slow churned
1/3 Cup frozen blueberries
Strawberry/Berry Milkshake
2/3 Cup nonfat milk
1 Scoop strawberry ice cream-slow churned
1/3 Cup frozen strawberries or combination frozen berries
French Silk Milkshake Freeze
This one has an extraordinary texture. Creamy, icy and flecks of chocolate.
2/3 Cup nonfat milk
1 Scoop French Silk Ice Cream-slow churned
4-5 Cubes of ice
